1. Hike the Tablelands – Step onto the Earth’s Mantle
The Tablelands are a geological marvel, a rare glimpse of the Earth’s mantle thrust up 485 million years ago. This rust-colored, Mars-like landscape helped prove the theory of plate tectonics, earning Gros Morne its UNESCO status. The 4 km round-trip Tablelands Trail is an easy hike with out-of-this-world views that are a great way to introduce yourself to the Tablelands. We are always blown away by the stark beauty and the rare plants that thrive here. Many people don't realize that backcountry skiing in the tableland mountains is world class, with an high alpine feel at lower elevations.
2. Cruise Western Brook Pond – A Fjord Like No Other
Western Brook Pond is a 16 km freshwater fjord carved by glaciers, with cliffs rising 600 meters high. A 2-hour boat tour with BonTours takes you through this dramatic landscape, past waterfalls cascading down sheer rock faces. The 3 km walk to the dock is a scenic warm-up, and once on the boat, the views are unforgettable—we couldn’t stop snapping photos! Tours run from mid-May to mid-October, and with 2025 expected to be busy, book early to secure your spot.

For a challenge, hike Gros Morne Mountain, the park’s highest peak at 806 meters. This 17 km loop trail takes you from lush forests to alpine terrain, with panoramic views of Bonne Bay and Ten Mile Pond from the summit. It’s a tough 6-8 hour hike, so pack plenty of water, snacks, and layers—Newfoundland weather can change fast! Don't forget to snap a summit photo!
